Building a Foundation with a GED and Choosing a Career Path

category: BPI Certification author:

By obtaining a high school equivalency, many opportunities have become available that once were completely out of reach. Opportunities are readily available for continued education at both community and technical colleges in a variety of fields, as well as a larger number of employment opportunities. Do not spend any more time thinking what kind of career you might have had, and instead begin building a foundation with a GED.

Completing the program for high school equivalency is a step in the right direction and requires commitment and dedication. This commitment and dedication is relayed whenever you apply for a position or enroll for additional classes. Most employers will appreciate a person who completes a project, and especially a person who returns to finish one.

While many four-year colleges do not accept this certificate for enrollment, there is no difficulty with enrolling in most community colleges. Most technical schools also acknowledge the equivalency certificate as well. Enrolling in Weekend College is often the best way to attend classes and still go to work.
Editor’s Note: If you’re having difficulty obtaining a rewarding career because you only have a GED, you may want to consider employment in the Green industry. Right now, acquiring a BPI certification could put you on the right career path and plus you’ll be helping the environment too. It’s a feel good type of job and there’s plenty of building contractors looking for certified building analyst professionals to help them grow their business. In some states, your potential employer may even qualify for a grant to send you to school for free.
During preparation for the test, various skills may have become apparent in a particular subject. It may be wise to continue a course of study on these particular skills, or on something that you have a strong passion for. It is much more likely to excel at subjects that tend to make us content and happy. If the test itself was an inspiration, you may want to consider obtaining a degree and becoming an instructor that can administer the test to others who are in the same position.

While furthering your education it may be necessary to try several different jobs before you eventually find just the right one. Learn everything that you can about the job and obtain any necessary continuing education available. Just remember that you can never have too much education and everything in life turns into a valuable lesson.

Building a Successful Team at Work

category: BPI Certification author:

It should be common place knowledge that building a successful team at work is one of the key strategies for any thriving project. There has to be individual contribution from each member towards the realization of the common goal of the team. Here’s how to create and maintain a great team for the success of any project.

The team must have common goals and a vision, where each member understands their role, and how they can integrate their personal aims to it. Realistic results can be measurable, and with such you can gauge how far the team has gone in terms of achieving their goals, and what should be done if otherwise. It is also wise to encourage interdependency since every team member must understand the extent of their contribution, and how it affects the overall efforts of the whole team. Interpersonal competition must be shunned as they hinder the team’s development.

The team members should understand and appreciate differences. Individual contribution is what makes up a team, therefore members must understand themselves, and realize that not all are equal, hence value the other members’ roles in the team. You must also ensure that all members are competent and fully understand what each project entails, and also ensure that you have the right people in your team, as far as different abilities are concerned. You must also understand in which area your team is lacking, and partake to fill the gap promptly for the overall success of the team.

Train and then follow up on training since it takes some time before people get to master new skills, so it is important to make it a point to remind the team members of what they have gathered so far, and what needs to be reiterated, so that there are reduced incidences of redundancy. Inquiries and feedback are important here.

In the process of building a successful team at work, appropriate communication is vital for any team since the direction in which communication flows should be well imparted to the members, as well as how to communicate with each other. Communication is very important, especially in linking up departments. Always remind the team of its purpose. The members must be given a constant reminder as appropriate, of the reason for their collective effort, and what they should be looking forward to, to keep them focused.

There should be a concrete agenda for team meetings. Conduct meetings only when necessary, and make sure irrelevant issues are kept out, since they take up a lot of time. The meetings must be well planned to make them efficient too. Try as much as possible to ensure the agenda is based on results. Last but not least, serve as an example. As the team leader, a huge responsibility rests upon your shoulder to be the example the members should emulate. More often than not, the members will do as you do, but rarely as you say, especially when you are not around. Being the perfect example gives the team member’s confidence that they are following the right person to guide them into the oblivious.

Catapult Your Career with an Advance Degree

category: BPI Certification author:

Studying towards a degree is a major commitment and this commitment relates to time, money and very important life decisions. At least five years will be spent on study and research as well as exams. You should ask certain questions to answer the question should you get your graduate degree or not.

Firstly determine the career goal. This is the first step as this is the part where you will decide what you want to do with your working life. Studying towards a degree and then deciding two years down the line this was not meant for you, has major time and money losses. Certain degrees require advanced degrees which will take longer to study towards.

The other factor to consider is the compensation that experts in the field you plan to study earn. People who have advanced degrees are more likely to earn more money than ordinary graduates. The salary levels have major gaps according to educational levels.

A degree sure does make you look good in the working field. What is important though is whether you study towards a career that is in demand. Certain career fields are occupied to the brim which means lower salary levels. If you have the entry level requirements for a career that is new and not fully employed you should make this one of your more important considerations.

When you ask should you get your graduate degree or not, also ask which degree to aim for. Masters degrees are evolving at a rapid pace and there are degrees in most career fields. A Doctorate degree is more specialized and you have to ascertain beforehand if there are doctorate degrees available in the field of study that you will choose.

Graduate programs are steeply priced due to the expert research and time that will be required. Not all schools provide financial aid and some only offer a slight discount on full once off payment. Hence, you have many factors to consider before deciding, but if it is your dream, make the decision and never look back.

Crucial Skills a Project Manager Needs to Have to Succeed

category: BPI Certification author:

Within the job world there are many different positions that need to be filled. When a team is created for a special job or project, a project manager is going to be required. If you think that you might be the best person for the job, you might want to look into this guide and learn about the crucial skills a project manager needs to be a success. Look right now and start developing all of these skills today.

A certain level of professionalism is required to get the right amount of work done. Those who goof around a lot and hang out without doing work are never going to help anyone get anything done. It is going to be your job to oversee everything and ensure that everyone is playing their part to take care of the project.

It is also going to be up to you and take charge of every single situation that comes up. If you do not take the time to talk with certain people about getting the job done, you are not going to get results. Come up with ideas and make sure to listen to everyone else’s ideas so that everyone has a chance to feel like they are included in everything throughout the entire time.
Editor’s Note: Project management is critical when it comes to dealing with the environment. Previous project management skills could potentially make or break a new project. Most importantly, if you’re presented with the task to make a new or existing building green, it’s vital to obtain the proper BPI building analyst training. BPI certification and on the job training is one of a few ways to improve the energy efficiency of a building.
Communication is also going to be a very large part of how the project manager performs. If you cannot delegate different assignments to individuals, you could end up doing everything all on your own. Give everyone their own task and job and make sure that you are clear about the instructions. This is going to let everyone know that you are in fact in charge and ready to go.

Being organized and keeping everything in order is going to be on your shoulders. You must be sure that you can easily keep all of the files that are being held for the project. If anything gets lost it will need to be done all over again. Use simple devices to help make sure that everything stays in one place and you should be all set.

These are all crucial skills a project manager is going to require in order to be successful. Take some time to look around right now and start learning tricks and tools needed. You will then be able to successfully head up a project and work well with everyone on the team.

Effective Organization at Work for Success

category: BPI Certification author:

In order to be productive, effective organization at work is extremely important and necessary. Not only does productivity suffer from poor organization, but studies show that a person’s health can suffer as well.

Poor work organization poses serious risks such as the development of heart disease, high stress levels, and psychological strain. These risks stem from work environments that place high demands on workers while giving them little to no option about how to do their work. Effective organization can actually lead to improved health such as increased confidence levels, lower stress levels, and fewer physiological problems.

Many people are unclear about what constitutes work organization; it is a broad concept without a clear definition that deals with how work is managed. The main aspects of work organization include scheduling, job design, interpersonal issues, career concerns, management style, and organizational characteristics.

In the past, many studies have been done that seek to find programs that offer the most effective work organization. They found that successful programs tend to allow workers and groups to discuss problems that arise and develop their own solutions. These programs also provide all of the technical and economic resources that are necessary for change. In doing this the self-worth of the employees are improved, thereby increasing organization and employee output.

Effective organization at work is vital to excel and improve work productivity. Time management is one of the key and possibly most important organizational tools. Punctuality is a routine problem that stems from bad time management and can result in flawed performance.

Prioritizing is another organizations skill that is necessary in the workplace. If employees cannot prioritize their work they will get behind in their work and be unable to meet deadlines. Prioritizing allows employees to see exactly what they have to complete on a daily basis.

Finally, evaluating work by importance is crucial to effective organization. This helps employees optimize their time at work and ensures they are not wasting time on meaningless tasks.

Effective Tasks Delegation on the Job

category: BPI Certification author:

Effective tasks delegation on the job is the key to efficiency and smooth flow of work in any office set-up. It results in reduced workload, less stress and more time left available for other matters. However, before delegating any work, the following factors should be considered;

Whom to delegate to: Knowing the strengths and weaknesses of an employee before assigning to them additional workload is very important. This enables you to know who can comfortably handle extra tasks and who would only mess things up. Work that is urgent should not be given to a slow worker or those who already have too much work pending on their desks.

Give clear instructions: It is essential to spell out proper guidelines and issue very clear instructions. To avoid being misunderstood, it is be necessary to make sure the instructions are properly grasped before the task is attempted. This can be done by asking the employee to repeat in their own words their understanding of the task at hand.

Periodic Checks: Don’t just wait for the finished assignment. Periodically check that the work is being done as per the instructions and to your satisfaction. This prevents time wastage as the piece of work may have to be done again because somebody got it all wrong from the onset. One should, however, note that the employee should not be pestered. The worker should be allowed as much freedom as possible to complete the assignment.

Effective tasks delegation on the job ensures the smooth running of the office even when you are away. This is because through it, employees are able to build their confidence as they are trained to handle even seemingly difficult tasks and even clients. It creates a sense of teamwork in the office and brings the much needed relief from work overload you may sometimes so desperately need.

The Importance of Finding a Career Doing What You Love

category: BPI Certification author:

In order to obtain the things that we need and want it becomes necessary for most of us to spend the majority of our lives in the work force. We may be forced to hold positions at times that are not to our liking, but the long-term goal should be to find the perfect balance between financial need and happiness. Just as the princess who had to kiss several frogs to find a prince, it may be necessary to try out several positions while finding a career doing what you love.

Many people go through high school and then even begin college with a specific major in mind. On many occasions the major is changed when the person is exposed to other things arriving at college, and develops skills or a new attachment to a particular field of study. This is a perfect opportunity to spend the time experimenting with different areas and developing different skills.
By experimenting with different jobs, you may find a liking to certain position in a company. Most importantly, the job must somehow harmonize with your personality or you will find yourself changing jobs frequently.
For example, if you like improving the conditions of our planet, you may be suited for a career as a BPI building analyst. Basically, you’re entering into a career as an energy auditor, and by training to be a BPI professional, you’re helping home owners save money on their utility bills.
Part-time jobs can be a good way to experiment with a couple of different professions at one time while still providing a worthwhile income. This will allow for ample time to see how you really feel about the work and can provide a good reference for a resume should you need it later. Also, a part-time position is also a good way to continue education until you have made a final decision.

Working for temporary agencies is another way to be exposed to many different types of employment and may be especially helpful if you have no idea what you want to do. They have connections in almost every area of business to allow you to try out nearly everything that you qualify for. It is possible for you to find something that really makes you happy and can be quite a substantial living permanently.

Some students volunteer at particular businesses that they are interested in while attending classes to see if they really like it before actually plunging into the field. Making the correct decision is important, as this will be a place that you will have to be nearly every day for the biggest part of your life. Whatever decision you make, remember it will be much more important to enjoy doing it and less important how wealthy you are.
